Shawl Ministry

The Shawl Ministry of Deep Run Presbyterian Church took up needles and yarn in September of 2003.  The Shawl Ministry was the brainstorm of two Connecticut seminary students in 1988.  These women decided that care, concern, prayer and knitting could be combined in a shawl that is presented to people in need.  Prayers are knitted into every shawl. Now in our second year, this ministry meets the first Wednesday of the month at 9:00 in the church library and has presented 90 prayer shawls to others.  All recipients are touched in a personal way, but more importantly receive a shawl in prayer and love.

This year, the ministry has begun to knit or crochet afghans.  These are presented to recipients of a Habitat For Humanity Home, and also to the Presbyterian Children’s Village Service in Rosemont, PA for adolescents in residential treatment programs.  Each adolescent who enters the program receives an afghan.  The ones we offer are filled with prayer.  The Shawl Ministry has been blessed with the love that Christ offers to each of us.
